Sundt Construction Finalizes Acquisition of Industrial Power Solutions

2026-05-14 7:06 am

Sundt Construction, a Tempe-based general contractor, has officially acquired Industrial Power Solutions (IPS), a Phoenix-based industrial electrical contractor. Through this agreement, IPS will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sundt, with shared services and personnel contributing to streamlined operations. This acquisition expands Sundt’s skilled electrical workforce, more than doubling its size.

The acquisition not only highlights Sundt’s growth but also positions both companies to tackle larger and more complex projects. IPS, which has been a trusted name in the Valley for nearly two decades, brings a proven track record of success in the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities. These projects often require sophisticated electrical work, an area where IPS has built substantial expertise.

Sundt President and CEO Cade Rowley spoke of the strategic alignment between the two companies, stating,

"The technical expertise of the IPS team matched with Sundt’s long history as a self-perform contractor creates an opportunity for our organizations to expand our capabilities and better serve our clients. Just as importantly, IPS’s commitment to safety, innovation and quality align with our own company values."

IPS was founded in 2008 and specializes in a wide range of services, including electrical construction, manufacturing, design, and field control services. The company has completed notable projects such as the Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant, the Union Hills Water Treatment Plant, and the 24th Street Water Treatment Plant. IPS operates from two locations in the Phoenix metro area and employs over 200 team members.

"We are proud to bring the power of employee-ownership to 200-plus IPS employees through our new relationship with Sundt", said Lucas Bruxvoort, founder of IPS. He added,

"IPS will continue to deliver the high-quality industrial electrical solutions our clients expect, with the support of one of the nation’s most respected general contractors."

Bruxvoort and his leadership team will remain in their roles as part of the agreement, ensuring continuity in leadership and operations.

This acquisition also comes at a critical time as demand for water and wastewater construction projects continues to grow across the Southwest. By combining resources, Sundt and IPS are well-positioned to address this increasing need with expanded capabilities and expertise.

Sundt, which has been in operation since 1890, is ranked No. 46 on Engineering News-Record’s Top 400 Contractors list. The company has undertaken major infrastructure projects throughout the state, including the ongoing rehabilitation of the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant, the Town of Gilbert North Water Treatment Plant, and the 202 Santan Freeway Widening. Sundt has also distinguished itself as a leader in safety, having been named the safest construction company in the nation by the Associated General Contractors of America on three separate occasions.

With their shared commitment to innovation, quality, and safety, Sundt and IPS are poised to deliver enhanced value to clients and make a noteworthy impact on the region’s infrastructure landscape.
