Ball Horticultural Company, a global leader in the development, production, and distribution of ornamental plants, has expanded its tropical portfolio through targeted acquisitions of genetics and commercial business from Aris Horticulture, a producer and developer of ornamental plants. The transactions strengthen Ball's presence in the evolving tropical plants market and combine industry-leading genetics with proven production expertise to deliver greater value to customers and partners across the horticulture industry.
Ball FloraPlant, the breeding arm of Ball Horticultural Company, acquired the complete Tradewinds Hibiscus genetics portfolio from Aris. The transfer includes all commercial varieties, breeding stock, future introductions, and the Tradewinds trademark, giving Ball full ownership of one of the most recognized hibiscus programs in the industry. Separately, Ball Seed acquired the commercial business responsibilities for Aris' tropical liner, prefinished, and finished programs, including Hibiscus, Mandevilla, and Tropical Fern classes, along with select Igloo Mums and Green Leaf Plants Florida perennials. Aris will continue to produce and finish the transferred products but will turn over all direct sales and distribution to Ball Seed, with the transferred products also available and sold through Star Roses and Plants.
With these acquisitions, Ball is significantly expanding its tropical portfolio while leveraging Aris' production and growing expertise to ensure continuity of supply for customers and partners. The structure of the transactions allows each company to focus on core strengths: Ball on breeding, sales, and distribution, and Aris on production and finishing. This partnership is designed to deliver premium products to customers who have come to rely on both organizations. Speaking about the impact of the acquisitions, Allan Davidson, President of Ball Horticultural Company, stated:
"Expanding our tropical portfolio helps Ball meet the needs of the evolving market. We welcome these exciting additions to the Ball family. This transition combines industry-leading genetics, production expertise, and customer support to deliver even greater value to our customers and partners."
The transactions represent an important strategic step for both organizations as they refocus their portfolios on the areas where each company can create the greatest long-term value for customers. Reflecting on the new arrangement, Scott Schaefer, President and CEO of Aris Horticulture, remarked:
"Ball has a compelling vision for leveraging Tradewinds and expanding its tropical plants portfolio, and Aris has the production and growing experience to make it happen. This strategic partnership allows each company to focus on core strengths and ensures the continuing supply of the premium products our customers have come to rely on."
